THE 25TH ANKARA THEATER FESTIVAL STARTED IN ÇANKAYA

The 25th Ankara Theater Festival, one of the most important cultural and artistic events in the capital city of Ankara, started at the Yılmaz Güney Stage, hosted by Çankaya Municipality. While Honor and Labor Awards found their winners on the opening night, the first play of the festival was the play "Galilee" staged by Kadıköy Public Theatre.

 

The 25th Ankara Theater Festival, organized by the Foundation for Social Research, Culture and Art (TAKSAV), with the sponsorship of Çankaya Municipality, opened its doors. The event, which could not be held for the last two years due to the pandemic, started this year with the award ceremony and the play "Celile" at Çankaya Municipality Yılmaz Güney Stage.

 

During the festival, where its opening speech was made by TAKSAV Chairman of the Board Prof. Dr Selçuk Candansayar, Çankaya Municipality was given the 25th Anniversary Special Award for its support since the establishment of the festival. Deputy Mayor Gülsün Bor Güner received the award on behalf of Çankaya Mayor Alper Taşdelen.

 

HONORARY AWARD WAS GIVEN TO METİN COŞKUN

 

On the opening night of the festival, the awards were also given to their owners. In line with the evaluations of the jury, this year Honor Award was presented to theater artist Metin Coşkun and Labor Award was presented to theater critic and Festival Advisory Board Member Prof Filiz Elmas.

 

THE FIRST PLAY “CELİLE”

 

After the award ceremony the opening of the festival started with the play "Celile" written and directed by Ali Yalçıner. The play performed by Kadıköy Public Theater revealed the brave struggle of a mother, whose heart beat for the freedom of her child, during the years of struggle of Nazım himself and all the world's intellectuals during his long imprisonment.

 

THE FESTIVAL WILL CONTINUE UNTIL NOVEMBER 28

 

The festival, which is held with the participation of theater companies from many countries of the world, as well as from our country every year, from university companies to private theaters, from city theaters to amateur theaters, aims to support and popularize theater and strengthen the bond between society and theater art.

 

The festival, which started on November 18, will end on November 28. Within the scope of the festival, dozens of theatre plays will meet art lovers from Ankara in different halls of the capital.
