The Dance of the Water Fairies/Ballerinas Statue, one of Çankaya's iconic works, was renewed and put into service.

Mayor Taşdelen: ”We will continue to make municipalism human-oriented. We will continue to keep the identity of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's Ankara alive forever. Chile Square, Ballerinas Statue and Kuğulu Park; this triangle has now been completely renovated.”

The Ballerinas/Water Fairies Dance Statue, which was made by sculptor Metin Yurdanur in 1992 for Çankaya Municipality, was renovated and put into service. The “Ballerinas” statue, which was made during the period of Doğan Taşdelen, who is the father of Çankaya Mayor Alper Taşdelen, started to dance again with water and light plays, just like in the old days.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Taşdelen said, "Works such as the Human Rights Statue, Miner Statue, Ballerina Statue, which are the symbols of Çankaya and bear the signature of Metin Yurdanur, which my late father Doğan Taşdelen brought to Ankara and added an identity to Ankara, are among our most important values that add identity to our Çankaya”.

“I'M HAPPY TO BRING MY FATHER'S HERITAGE WITH CANKAYA PEOPLE”

Noting that the identity of a city is to create a human-first city, Alper Taşdelen continued: “Identity makes sense if it becomes tangible. When you travel all over the world, you see that the sculptures in those cities form the identity of the city. The condition of our Ballerinas Statue was also very upsetting us. My father made a conservation decision for these statues, so that they would not be destroyed, because he saw the future. When you take a restoration decision, you cannot start the restoration work without going to the Ministry or the committee. We started to work for permits a year ago, and today we bring them together with the people of Ankara in their original form. I am very happy today, I am very happy to bring the legacy of a father back to the people of Çankaya. We will continue to make municipalism human-oriented. We will continue to keep the identity of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's Ankara alive forever. Chile Square, Ballerinas Statue and Kugulu Park, this triangle has now been completely renovated.”

METiN YURDANUR THANKED ALPER TAŞDELEN

Metin Yurdanur, the creator of the work, also thanked Alper Taşdelen for protecting the work, which was a gift from his father, "I would like to thank all the people who live with the responsibility of the city, who protect the artistic and cultural values, past, present and future of the city they live in. There was a checkpoint at the point where we were at after September 12. In the most popular place of Ankara, there was a guard with guns in their hands. Doğan Taşdelen who was the late and dearly beloved Mayor of Çankaya, and his friends decided to bring this beautiful place back to life. Here I prepared a figure dancing with water. Since then, the statue became old. The public of Ankara started a big campaign and demanded that the statue be put into the service of the people of Ankara again. Alper Taşdelen also claimed this work, which was a gift from his father. I thank him very much”.
