20 September 2021 Monday 09:47

Chile Square and Park, one of the symbols of friendship between the peoples of Chile and Turkey, was renovated and opened to service.

Mayor Alper Taşdelen: "The countries that accept Mustafa Kemal Atatürk as their leader have a very special place in our hearts."

Chile Square and Park was added to the renovation works carried out by Çankaya Municipality at Kuğulu Junction and its surroundings. “Chile Square and Park”, one of the symbol areas of the Capital, which was renovated by the Çankaya Municipality through irrigation, lighting, vegetative revision and environmental arrangements, was presented to the citizens of the Capital with its new face.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the square, Çankaya Mayor Alper Taşdelen said that they continue to renovate Çankaya's iconic memory points. Noting that they have reorganized the Kuğulu Park and Karum surroundings, Mr. Taşdelen said, "I am happy to open the square and park, which we have completely renovated, on the national day of Chile."

Reminding that Çankaya hosts all embassies, Mr. Taşdelen continued: "When the esteemed ambassador came to visit me exactly one month ago, he stated that they wanted to renovate the monument. I told him that we should not just renovate the monument. I said, let's complete everything that is missing there. We took action immediately and corrected the shortcomings of this place and made it perfect. Countries that fought against imperialism, fought the National War of Independence, and took Mustafa Kemal Atatürk as their pioneer have a very special place in our hearts. That's why we love Latin American countries. I would like to express to our ambassadors that our doors and hearts are always open with Turkish hospitality.”

This square, where we came together, was opened to the public 50 years ago and a monument was added later. September is a special occasion for Chile and Turkey, where national values are reinforced and the Republic and democracy are heroically defended. We will be very happy to participate in the 100th anniversary celebration events of the Turkish Republic, which will start very soon, to show our friendship to the people of Turkey and to cooperate in all matters.”
