31 August 2021 Tuesday 09:11

Alper Taşdelen: “When Mustafa Kemal arrived in Samsun on May 19, his struggle to break the chain of captivity in his heart and his determination ignited a whole nation and the Turkish Nation, which fought against the powerful nations of the world, gained its independence. Here is the August 30, a victory in which that chain of captivity has been shattered.”

Çankaya Mayor Alper Taşdelen participated in the ceremonies on the 99th anniversary of the 30 August Victory Day and experienced the joy of the holiday with all Çankaya residents.

Çankaya Mayor Alper Taşdelen, who laid a wreath at the Atatürk Monument at the ceremony held in Çayyolu Ata Park, commemorated all the martyrs who gave their lives in the liberation and establishment of Turkey with gratitude. Addressing the people of Çankaya at the ceremony, Mayor Alper Taşdelen said, “We are celebrating our August 30 Victory Day on a bright and beautiful day. We are happy that we are a nation that gained its independence against imperialism, shattered the chain of captivity, and brought out a valiant and hero like Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Happy holiday.“ he said. In his speech, Mayor Alper Taşdelen reminded Mehmet Akif Ersoy's verses of the National Anthem, "I wonder what madness will chain me", and continued his words as follows:

The madness that will chain the Turkish Nation has never been successful in history. We achieved our independence by fighting, not yielding, and not surrendering. There is no time that the Turkish Nation can live in captivity. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's words "Either Independence or Death" or "They will go as they come" when he comes to İstanbul are the words of this spirit of independence. When Mustafa Kemal arrived in Samsun on May 19, his struggle to break the chain of captivity in his heart and his determination ignited a whole nation and the Turkish Nation, which fought against the powerful nations of the world, gained its independence. Here is the August 30, a victory in which that chain of captivity has been shattered. Our people won the greatest national liberation struggle of humanity against imperialism with the great and revolutionary leadership of the Great Leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk on the road to liberation. He set out without relying on anything but his own people and gave humanity a great liberation struggle. We celebrate our people's victory and liberation day, August 30, Victory Day, and I commemorate with gratitude and respect our martyrs and veterans, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who gave us our independence and freedom, and who showed their presence in the liberation of this country."

Çankaya Municipality celebrated the 30 August Victory Day by distributing flags and Atatürk’s Nutuk (Speeches) to the citizens, accompanied by the Çankaya Youth Band. The holiday bus of Çankaya Municipality, accompanied by marches, traveled to many points of the district and increased the enthusiasm of the citizens.
