Çankaya Municipality has signed The European Charter of Women and Men in Local Life prepared by Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) and accordingly prepared a local equality action plan in order to implement gender equality into practice and integrate it into the municipal services.

The action plan covers a period of three years (2016-2019) and presents the objectives of Çankaya Municipality’s gender equality based local authority perspective. In order to develop a realistic and applicable action plan the preparation process was highly participatory involving a wide number of internal and external stakeholders. A gender equality working group has been established which is composed of the representatives of different departments of the municipality, and it held regular meetings for the preparation of the action plan.

As part of the gender studies, Çankaya Municipality has already established a Gender Equality Unit and organizes trainings, seminars and meetings for gender mainstreaming targeting the administrators and staff of the municipality on gender equality and gender sensitive budgeting.
