GERMAN MUSIC COMPOSER PROF. EDUARD ZUCKMAYER COMMEMORATED IN ÇANKAYA

Prof. Eduard Zuckmayer, who escaped from Nazi Germany and came to Turkey in the first years of the Republic Period was commemorated in the Yılmaz Güney Stage.

Prof. Eduard Zuckmayer, who escaped from Nazi Germany and came to Turkey in the first years of the Republic Period, was commemorated with an event held at the Yılmaz Güney Stage. The event program themed “Traces of Foreign Scientists in Ankara and Çankaya in The First Years of The Republic Period” continued with the commemoration of Prof. Eduard Zuckmayer, who escaped from Nazi Germany and came to Turkey upon the invitation of the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in 1936.

Marion Erdmann, the wife of German Ambassador Martin Erdmann, Çankaya Mayor Alper Taşdelen and the students of Prof. Zuckmayer attended the event held at the Yılmaz Güney Stage. In his speech at the commemoration ceremony, Mr. Taşdelen stated that he was honored to be a part of the organized program and emphasized that he remembers Zuckmayer with respect, who was a musician that wrote the German lyrics of the Turkish National Anthem, recomposed the German child song called “Dostluğun Bir Sevgisi” (The Love of Friendship) with the Turkish lyrics, and offered his contributions to the era when the culture and art policies of the Modern Republic were built with his understanding of music to everyone.

Marion Erdmann, wife of German Ambassador Martin Erdmann thanked Çankaya Municipality in her speech and addressed the audience with the words of Zuckmayer, one of the most important representatives of Turkish German friendship, by saying “Music opens hearts and combines cultures”.

Prof. Eduard Zuckmayer’s tomb located in Cebeci Asri Cemetery was also visited by the delegation.
