WOEFUL OPENING BY ÇANKAYA, OZANCAN AKKUŞ PARK OPENED

Alper Taşdelen: “No matter where the terror comes from, I condemn all the terrorist organizations that kill people. It is an honor for us to keep the name of Ozancan Akkuş in Çankaya, the uprising against terror.” Çankaya Municipality opened the park named after Ozancan Akkuş, a METU Electrical-Electronics Engineering student who lost his life in a terrorist attack in Ankara Güvenpark on March 13, 2016. Ozancan's father Mehmet Nuri Akkus and members of his family attended the opening ceremony.

 

Çankaya Municipality opened Ozancan Akkuş Park in Çiğdem Neighborhood. Ozancan’s father Mehmet Nuri Akkuş and his family members attended the opening of the park, which was named after Ozancan Akkuş, whose life was taken away by a terrorist attack on 13 March 2016. There were sad moments at the opening ceremony hosted by Çankaya Mayor Alper Taşdelen.

 

ALPER TAŞDELEN: “GOD DAMN THE TERRORISTS”

 

Alper Taşdelen, who gave a short speech at the ceremony, stated that the purpose of the municipality is to gain social spaces for the people to use, but at the same time to touch, to remember and not to forget. He said “Here we are at the opening of a park that we will not forget and cause to be forgotten. No matter where the terror comes from, I condemn all the terrorist organizations that kill people.”

 

IT IS AN HONOUR FOR US TO KEEP OZANCAN'S NAME ALIVE

 

Alper Taşdelen stated that as Çankaya Municipality the names of the martyrs who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks were given to the parks. “Ozancan Akkuş is a brother we will never forget. Ozancan, who is a model for everyone with his personality and character, was taken from us in the spring of his life. It is an honor for us to keep alive the name of Ozancan Akkuş in Çankaya, it is an uprising against terrorism.”

 

NURİ AKKUŞ: “WHAT WE WANT THE SINGLE THING TO RESIST IS NOT TO BE FORGOTTEN”

 

Taşdelen had emotional moments during the speech of Nuri Akkuş who is the father of Ozancan. Father Akkuş thanked to Çankaya Mayor Taşdelen and said "I thank to everyone who share our pain. While we were experiencing this unnamable pain, we had only one thing to expect; our lives would have a meaning, not be forgotten. Do you know what it's like to die every day while you love to live so much? Now we know. What we want the single thing to resist is not to be forgotten. This park is a good example. I thank to everyone who contributed.” After the speeches, Çiğdemim Association presented the certificate of five trees planted in Gaziantep Memorial Forest on behalf of Ozancan to father Akkuş.

 

NEXT TO OZANCAN'S SCHOOL

 

Ozancan Akkuş Park is in Çiğdem Neighborhood on the 1549th Street and located near Ankara Science High School in which Ozancan studied, has a total area of 1030 square meters. The park, which has 430 square meters of green space, will be the new entertainment and recreation place of the local people with its 185 meter long walking path, waterfall and pool, children's playground and living units.
