CHILDREN LEARN ABOUT ABUSE THROUGH GAMES

22 March 2018 Thursday 09:32

As part of “Equality and Awareness Month” initiated on the occasion of March 8th International Women’s Rights Day, Çankaya Municipality instructed children on child abuse. Through the medium of games, children learned about “good and bad touching” as well as their physical limits.

As part of “Equality and Awareness Month” initiated on the occasion of March 8th International Women’s Rights Day, Çankaya Municipality organized a workshop aimed at children entitled “Gender Roles and Awareness about Abuse.” During the workshop, which took place at Bademlidere Çankaya House, children participated in various drama activities by playing games using tools such as balls, ropes, and hula hoops. Children were informed about “good and bad touching”, what “private parts” means, and their physical boundaries at the activity organized in partnership with Nar Women’s Solidarity.

“SCREAM AS LOUDLY AS YOU CAN”

At the seminar, children were told that every one of them are individually surrounded by an invisible hula hoop. In the event of them feeling discomfort from someone violating physical boundaries, the procedure to follow was listed as such:

If you are feeling bad, then something bad is happening. The person making you feel bad can also be someone whom you know and love. It is your right to demand help. Scream as loudly as you can. Get away from there immediately. Tell what happened to your parents, your teacher, or someone you trust.”

Free workshops organized within the scope of “Equality and Awareness Month” will persist until March 30th.
