FIDEL CASTRO’S NAME HAS BEEN GIVEN TO A PUBLIC PLACE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE WORLD

Çankaya Municipality make the name of Fidel Castro, the leader of Cuba, live in the park opened on 13th of August which is his birthday. The name of the legendary revolutionary leader Castro who died in 2016 was given to the public space in the world for the first time.

 

Çankaya Mayor Alper Taşdelen: “We are honored to make the name of a great revolutionary leader live in Çankaya, the county of Atatürk and revolution.”

 

Cuban Ambassador Alberto Gonzalez Casals: “Fidel Castro and Che Guevara were the leaders who read the books of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, studied on his ideas and strategies. In the Cuban revolution, there is the contribution of the Turkish revolution and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.”

 

Çankaya Municipality makes the name of Fidel Castro, the leader of Cuba, live in the park opened on 13th of August which is his birthday. The name of the legendary revolutionary leader Castro who died in 2016 was given to the public space for the first time.

 

The park is located between 2806 and 2808 streets in Ahmet Taner Kışlalı neighborhood in Çayyolu. The opening was hosted by Çankaya Mayor Alper Taşdelen and the guests are CHP Deputy Ali Haydar Hakverdi, CHP Ankara Provincial Head Adnan Keskin, CHP Çankaya District Head Selçuk Dereli, Cuban Ankara Ambassador Alberto Gonzalez Casals, Costa Rica Ambassador Marcelo Varela-Erasheva, Panama Ankara Ambassador Jorge Hernan Miranda Corona, Brazil Ankara Ambassador Eduardo Riccardo Gradilone Neto ve Argentine Republic Ankara Ambassador Julian Luis Tettamanti and the residents of the neighborhood.

 

Mayor Taşdelen who made the opening speech of the ceremony said, “We are honored to make the name of a great revolutionary leader’s name live in Çankaya, the county of Atatürk and revolution. Castro was a revolutionary leader on the way of Atatürk. All the revolutionists follows each other. Because, they are the pole stars of humanity.”

Taşdelen emphasized that they have showed what kind of municipality a republic should do in Çankaya in numerous ways. He said “I feel the honor of making the name of one of the greatest leaders of human history live in Çankaya. We will fulfill all our responsibilities for Turkey and Cuba to be two sister countries hereafter.”

 

 “CASTRO’S FAMILY THANKED FOR THE GREAT GESTURE”

Cuban Ambassador Alberto Gonzales Casals stated that one of the Castro’s wills was that not given his name to any place and not erected his statue. He added:

 “However, when Çankaya Municipality wanted to give Castro’s name to a park and we delivered this request to Castro’s family and the Cuban government, they thanked for the great gesture of Fidel’s friends. Now, we are delighted to be at the opening of this park which is called his name on Fidel’s birthday. We thank mayor Taşdelen and Turkish people very much.”

Ambassador Casals stated that Fidel Castro and Che Guevara were the leaders who read the books of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, studied on his ideas and strategies, said “In the Cuban revolution, there is the contribution of the Turkish revolution and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. One of Ataturk’s busts is located in a place resembled of İstanbul Bosphorus in Havana.”

The ceremony ended with the sprinkling of the land brought from Atatürk’s bust in Havana to the flowers in Fidel Castro Park.
