Çankaya Mayor said that municipalities are trying to be prevented from reaching the public during the pandemic process. Despite this, the mayor who explained that they reached tens of thousands of citizens directly and distributed tens of thousands of parcels, said that: “We worked so that no children goes to their beds hungry”.

Ankara's Çankaya Mayor Alper Taşdelen made assessments regarding the municipality's works during the Covid-19 outbreak process. Mr. Taşdelen from CHP said that, “The epidemic problem cannot be solved without the use of reason and science. In this process, this was the basic understanding of our municipality”.

Stating that the municipality has basic necessity and cash assistance to the citizens in the epidemic, Mr. Taşdelen said, "We also experienced the advantages of working with a metropolitan mayor from CHP.”

The assessments that Mr. Taşdelen made to our newspaper on the agenda topics are as follows:

“The outbreak has two dimensions. One is about the people's lives and the other is about their pockets. Looking at the point of health, those who want to solve this with herd immunity have been in a lot of trouble. Those who dealt with the issue with a more protectionist approach carried out the process more tidily. In our country, the Ministry of Health kept the incident tight. We have to deliver the right. The health system in Turkey compared to other countries is in very good condition, so is understanding. Even those who are successful in university exams prefer medical schools first.

The basis for the health system to be so successful is the Republican era. In this period, the public health policy was adopted. By tradition in Turkey in the period up to the last 25 years it has been dominated by public based logic. This ensured the training of equipped personnel in the health sector. Health is a basic human right. We have to act with this understanding. We should not surrender to money in such matters. With the understanding of social state, the highest quality service should be provided by the state. The difference between countries that adopt the understanding of the social state and those that do not adopt was noticeable in this process. How will the person with no income stay at home? The answer is in the social state. It is necessary to reach out to all those affected by the pandemic. Municipalities of CHP stepped in right here. We worked to ensure that no children go to bed hungry. We have experienved again how important the social state is.”

WE ARE HERE TO SERVE

“We are here to serve our people. We are social democrats and we say "We are human first". When you hit the road this way, you solve many problems from the beginning. We found ways to transfer the municipal resources to our people, not to concrete this period. We stopped many tenders because we do not know how long the economic problems will continue. Our aim was to cure the troubles. In the past three months, thousands of people have been deprived of their income because all their businesses have been closed and they have been left with the problem of how to live their lives. We stepped in at that point. We distributed 35 thousand food parcels in our own district. We provided cash support to our citizens who wanted cash support. We distribute two liters of milk weekly to children. We did not receive any rent revenue from our tenants. We realized joint projects with the metropolitan municipality. We supported iftar campaigns. We supported the project of paying the debits on the purchased on credit books in the neighborhood grocery stores. Our elders older than 65 could not leave their homes. We made their purchases. We wanted to be there for whoever had any problem. We distributed 54 thousand violets so that citizens can regain their joy of living. We disinfect the workplaces.

WE SHOULD HAD BEEN HAND IN HAND

“Municipalities were able to receive conditional or unconditional donations. In such a troubled period, the aid campaign blockages were reacted by the public. In this process, it does not matter if the aid is provided by the government or municipalities. We should had been hand in hand with the central government. In this way, the problems of the people should be resolved. There was blocking, but we have overcome these obstacles in various ways. Working with the metropolitan mayor of CHP made our jobs much easier than before. Mr. Mansur wants to solve the problems of the people. The political view is a mayor who deals with real problems for all, regardless of belief. Our grievances from the previous years are eliminated.

We will continue the practices we have implemented since the beginning of the epidemic. Our material and spiritual support will continue until the process ends. We will constantly invite our people to respect social distance, to wear masks. We must comply with the decisions of the Scientific Board. This is not politics' business. I also hope that the government acts as directed by the Scientific Committee. As municipalities, we also hold talks with scientists. Our party headquarters is also preparing reports. All results come to the same door, this process should be carried out in the light of reason and science. ”

IT IS NOT A SURPRISE WHAT HAPPENED IN THE USA

Çankaya Mayor Alper Taşdelen, who undertook the “Prime Minister's Consultancy” role in the 57th Government Period founded by Bülent Ecevit, and also studied the developments in foreign policy at Columbia University, addressed the events in the USA and the latest situation in Syria, said the followings:

“First of all, it is necessary to say that it is not a surprise what happened in the USA. The USA has a huge income injustice in itself. We see that a very small minority has the largest of the cake. The social state understanding that we observe in European-style democracies does not exist in the USA. Basic education is far from social state practices in the field of health. There is service for those who have money. In a country where 326 million people live, this order was exposed in the pandemic because people could not access basic health services and unemployment increased at a high rate.

The Syria issue is a swamp exactly. We had warned that 'you should not get in here'. Foreign policy is not a coincidence. While establishing a new state with the experiences of the Ottoman period, a very concrete and rational foreign policy practice was followed in order to prevent the state from having a border problem. Our argument in international events has always been law and justice. This created a respected country, but we experienced a time in which the foundations of foreign policy were overthrown in the Syrian issue.”
