Çankaya Municipality’s “Building Resilient City Through Empowering Women” project, which has been implemented within the scope of Town Twinning Grant Program between Turkey and EU, Frankfurt Municipality, gave its first fruits.

Çankaya Municipality’s “Building Resilient City Through Empowering Women” project which has been implemented within the scope of Town Twinning Grant Program between Turkey and EU, Frankfurt Municipality, was crowned with a panel attended by 3 strong women carrying out studies on climate.

Çankaya Municipality, which continues its efforts to create a healthier and more livable Çankaya with the help of climate-friendly women within the scope of the project, which aims to raise awareness on women and environmental problems, brought together Buket Uzuner, who carries out studies on on climate, Nuran Talu, woman studies expert, environmental and political scientist, and Prof. Dr. Nesrin Algan, faculty member (Department Chair) of Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Urban, Environmental and Local Government Policies, with the Çankaya people in the panel organized at the Mülkiye Cultural Center.

Speakers, who shared their experiences in the project, which aims to raise awareness for a gender-sensitive climate action and to enhance the capacity of participants to incorporate gender equality into climate policies and projects, also shared that local governments have a great responsibility and the sensitivity of Çankaya Municipality is of great importance.

Çankaya Deputy Mayor Gülsün Bor Güner, who stated that the project entitled “Building Resilient City Through Empowering Women”, aims to address the issue of environment, energy and climate change from a women's perspective. Mrs Güner, who noted that their main targets are increasing the participation of women in local services and strengthening women's representation in the process of combating climate change, which is a major problem in the world, also underlined that Çankaya Municipality has carried out important works on equality between men and women in local life.

In the panel, where there was intense participation, the importance of a policy dialogue and exchange of information between local politicians and representatives of women's organizations and groups were addressed, solutions and ways to establish and maintain healthy spaces and livable environment in the city were also discussed.
