The 6th Ordinary Elective General Assembly of Çankaya City Council, established to implement “participatory municipalism“ in Turkey's largest district, meets on 25-26 May 2019.

The 6th Ordinary Elective General Assembly of Çankaya City Council, established to manage Çankaya with Çankaya people and to implement “participatory municipalism“ in Turkey's largest district, meets on 25-26 May 2019. Çankaya City Council, one of Turkey's most important city councils, which contains 350 civil society and public institutions representatives within itself, will elect its board of directors.

PARTICIPATORY MANAGEMENT APPROACH

Çankaya Mayor Alper Taşdelen, who stated that Çankaya City Council and Çankaya Neighbourhood Councils are one of the important examples of participatory democracy for the city, said that, in the new period, they will sign new works together with Çankaya City Council and its stakeholders. Indicating that the urban rights came forefront, Mayor Taşdelen said that: “The city belongs to those living in that city. The “I did and it happened this way” approach revealing by the rulers of the city is not acceptable in our age.

Mayor Taşdelen, who stated that they have implemented many projects such as Çiğdem Neighborhood Referendum and Yaşamkent Yaşar Kemal Park, which set an example for participatory municipalism during the provincial duty period, said that: “We asked the people of the region what kind of Yaşar Kemal Park would be. They even decided to detail of the floor of the children's playground and it was done as they wanted. We refer to the views of universities, associations, foundations and trade unions in project work. Together with our City Council, we will put forward the best examples of urban democracy in the new period.”
