20 May 2019 Monday 09:20

Çankaya Mayor Alper Taşdelen published a message, celebrating the 100th anniversary of 19 May 1919, the date when Ataturk burned the torch of independence.

Çankaya Mayor Alper Taşdelen’s message celebrating the 100th anniversary of 19 May 1919, the starting date of the struggle for independence, which he describes as the "end of the dark" is as follows:

“May 19 is the day of the rebirth of our nation. It is the common birthday of everyone living in this geography. Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk's struggle on the path of independence and freedom is the bright light of not only Anatolia but all oppressed nations. Our struggle for liberation and establishment, our Republican revolutions are the common heritage of humanity.

Atatürk's and the Republic's Çankaya protects its past and all the values of the independence and Republic. A nation, a community cannot forget its past, otherwise it pays the costs. If a nation forgets, it loses the light of independence and enlightenment. We will continue to protect our national holidays; we will continue to live with the values that have created us.

Çankaya Municipality is aware of the historical mission it carries. We are both working hard and exhibiting a management approach worthy of Atatürk and the Republic. Our way is Mustafa Kemal's way.

I offer my eternal respect, gratitude and thankfulness foremost to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the face of freedom and freedom, and to those who gave the National Liberation Struggle, the martyrs who gave their lives for this country, and those we lost in the struggle for enlightenment and independence. We hadn’t been defeated a hundred years ago, we won’t be defeated even passing of a hundred thousand years. Happy May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.”
